You can’t fail to have noticed that todays fashions mean that people wear just about anything?

Here’s an idea for those who like to people watch; when you are next out shopping take a break for coffee, or tea, and observe all of the various fashions that pass by. Take a look at the people you see and mentally catalogue their clothing based on the era from which the fashion originates, 1960s, 70s etc.

It would appear that almost anything goes these days. You’ll see many people wearing skin tight drainpipe jeans that were very fashionable during the 1960s. These might be worn with a pair of boots or trainers. And on the top they may be wearing anything from a leather biker jacket to a Hawaiin shirt.

Fashions today have become enormously eclectic with fashion conscious young people mixing and matching items from almost any era. I saw one young lady wearing a ball gown along with a leather biker jacket and a huge pair of ex military paratrooper boots and a pair of worn and torn fishnet stockings.

Take a look at the various styles of jeans that people are wearing these days. You will see everything from skin tight 1960s style drainpipes through to super baggy skater pants or slouchy Fat Face Jeans.

There are some ghastly fashions that I hope we’ll never see again. Do you remember 1980s shoulder pads? It was during the 1980s that jackets became much wider and hair became much larger. And what about leggings or ski pants? They were originally worn under another item of clothing like a skirt or a pair of shorts but it became fashionable to wear them on their own.

I’ve been writing this post while sitting in a cafe observing the various fashions as they pass by and I just saw a middle aged man in a pair of skin tight ski pants. It just goes to show that many fashions tend to return, regardless of how bad they once were. My fashion plan is to grow my hair into an enormous mullet and buy some skin tight leather trousers for that 1980s German rocker look.
